    FAQs About Simparica

Simparica is an oral flea and tick medicine for dogs. It is given once a month via a chewable tablet and starts killing fleas and ticks within hours. It can also prevent new infestations of these pests. Need flea medicine for extra large dogs or small dogs? There are 6 different dosage options depending on your dog’s weight, ranging from 2.8 lbs. to 132 lbs.

Simparica contains sarolaner, which enters your dog’s bloodstream after being absorbed through the stomach. When a parasite like a flea or tick bites your dog, they ingest the sarolaner along with their “meal,” which disrupts their nerve cell functions and kills them. Sarolaner is extremely effective against invertebrates like fleas and ticks in very small doses that do not affect dogs.

Simparica has been evaluated by the FDA and approved for dogs that weigh more than 2.8 lbs. and are over 6 months old. Side effects are rare but can include diarrhea, vomiting and abnormal neurologic signs. Be aware that it has not been evaluated for use in dogs that are pregnant, lactating or breeding. Always give it as directed, and never give Simparica or other oral flea medicine for dogs to a human, cat or other animals. If your dog takes too much Simparica, contact your veterinarian.
