Gabapentin Cat Medicine

My dog has been prescribed 300mg Gabapentin. I left the bottle at my dog-sitters house. I also take 100 mg Gabapentin. I have read that I can give my dog Gabapentin human Gabapentin as long as it does not have xylitol in it. How can I be sure it doesn’t? They are capsules, not liquid.

My senior cat had very bad kidneys when we adopted him. He wasn't expected to live very long. To our surprise, he did very well, despite arthritis pain, for which we give him gabapentin twice a day. His last kidney value was within high normal limits. We are concerned though because the gabapentin is contraindicated for cats with poor kidneys. We want to put him on a narcotic, but our vet keeps refusing and insisting on the gabapentin. What is your feeling on this?

My cat has been on gabapentin for just over a week now for arthritis pains and I’ve noticed she has a pretty large patch of dry flaking skin on her side.
