Droncit is a prescription wormer and internal parasite medication for cats and dogs, used to control tapeworms. "Wormer" is a term that describes medications used to treat internal parasitic infections, usually of the digestive tract.
Droncit is available for dogs over 4 weeks of age and cats over 6 weeks of age. Droncit is safe to use in pregnant dogs and cats.
Prescription single ingredient wormer for tapeworms
Controls tapeworms transmitted by fleas
Easy to administer tablet in separate sizes for dogs and cats
Droncit tablets remove tapeworms from dogs and cats. Droncit is a wormer with a single ingredient, praziquantel. Praziquantel is an FDA-approved oral medication that treats infestations from multiple species of tapeworm, including Dipyldium caninum in dogs and cats. Droncit treats infestations from Taenia taeniaformis in cats, and Taenia pisiformis in dogs. This prescription wormer is also indicated for the removal of multiple Echinococcus species. For dogs, each tablet contains 34 mg of praziquantel, while for cats each tablet contains 23 mg.
Droncit contains praziquantel. Following ingestion of praziquantel, the tapeworm loses its ability to attach to the pet's intestines, thus causing the parasite to be digested and eliminated.
Yes, as a branded, nonprescription wormer: Tradewinds Tapeworm Tabs.
Droncit tablets are given by mouth. Tablets may be crumbled and mixed with a small amount of food. This should be eaten before the pet receives the remainder of the meal to ensure the entire amount of medication is ingested. Fasting is neither necessary nor recommended.
Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your veterinarian. If you have difficulty giving the medication, contact your veterinarian.
This medication should only be given to the pet for whom it was prescribed.
Droncit will quickly kill the adult tapeworms present in the animal's intestine. It will not prevent reinfection. In most cases, you will not see the entire worm being passed as it is generally digested.

Talk to your veterinarian about the steps necessary to prevent your pet from becoming reinfected with tapeworms.
Notify your veterinarian of any other medications or supplements your pet is taking, and also if your pet has had any reactions to previous medications.
In most cases only one dose of Droncit is needed, however if re-exposure is likely, your pet may be placed on a regular deworming schedule. If you do miss a dose, give it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to the regular schedule. Do not give two doses at once.
You should understand what steps you can take to prevent reinfection of your pet.
Not for use in animals who are hypersensitive (allergic) to it.
Side effects are rare, but may include drooling, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, lethargy, or staggering.
Store at room temperature in a tight, light-resistant, childproof container. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
If you know or suspect your pet has had an overdose, contact your veterinarian immediately.
Consult your veterinarian before using praziquantel with any other medications, including vitamins and supplements, and other wormers, since interactions may occur.

Hello, my pup got a “Droncit Injection 56.8 mg/ml” shot on May 29. Since that day he has been having diarreah and on the poop there is always this clear slimy thing that looks like mucus. I was wondering if thay was normal because the vet did not tell me what was going to happen after he received the shot.
I got Layla & started her on Trifexis & Fish Oil. 2 months later she scoot her hiney & I saw tapeworms. The vet gave her a Droncit injection. 1 week later her first heat cycle started & her eyes were swollen shut. I thought she caught pinkeye but it was only her lids so I gave her Benadryl & it cleared up. She started losing hair & scratching worse than before. The vet said it was demodex & gave her Apoquel Cephalexin Ivermectin & Vitamin C. It’s been a month now and she still itches bad. Help!?
