VETMEDIN-CA1 (pimobendan) chewable tablets is conditionally approved for the treatment of dogs with myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) in the pre-clinical stage B2 (asymptomatic with a murmur/abnormal heart sounds and evidence of increased heart size) to delay onset of clinical signs of heart failure. Conditionally approved by FDA pending a full demonstration of effectiveness under application number 141-556 (please see full prescribing information). Given every 12 hours, the unique dual action of VETMEDIN-CA1 dilates the blood vessels carrying blood to and from the heart-reducing the overall load on the heart-while simultaneously improving the ability of the heart muscle to contract. The active ingredient in VETMEDIN-CA1 (pimobendan) helps the heart muscle to contract and relax (pump) more effectively and it dilates blood vessels which reduces the amount of force with which the heart needs to pump blood.

Can Vetmedin (pimobendan) capsules be opened and sprinkled into food? The capsules are quite large for my dog to swallow and I can't find a monograph indicating whether the capsule is immediate release or sustained/extended release.

My dog is currently on Vetmedin 1.25mg every 12 hours and Enalapril 1.25mg every 12 hours. He has been on these medications for about 1 and half months and has recently had a few fainting spells. He has an enlarged heart and has a heart murmur. His vet recommended us giving him a half dosage of Vetmedin in between the 12 hours would you recommend this? What are signs that he is getting too much?
My dog has pulmonary hypertension and Cushings. She takes Sildenafil and Vetoryl. She was given terbutaline for when she has attacks, but we never used it because theophylline and albuterol made her worse. The dosage given was 10 mgs every 12 hrs which seems high to me. When I called my vet, he said it is correct. Can I start her on one 5 mg tab and can it be crushed like other meds she takes?
Pillsbury is a 3 year old 70 lb pitbull boxer mix that was diagnosed last week with right-sided congestive heart failure. At the appointment, they tapped his stomach and withdrew about half a gallon of liquid so he's now down to 62. Since Monday, he's been prescribed Vetmedin (5mg) and Enacard (5mg). It's been several days now and his heart rate is consistebtly between 152-160 beats per minute in resting state, accompanied by heavy breathing. Is this normal as a side effect of the medication?
My 10 LB dog got two doses of vetmedin this morning. Instead of 1/2 of 2.5 tab she received 1/2 from both of us should we be concerned?
