Five Stars – A Game-Changer for My Golden Retriever!

Travis H.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I've tried countless foods over the years for my golden retriever, but The Honest Kitchen Dehydrated Whole Grain Turkey has been a complete game-changer. Within just a few weeks of switching, I noticed a remarkable improvement in his overall health—his energy levels are higher, his digestion is smoother, and his coat? Softer, shinier, and healthier than it's ever been. My golden has always had a friendly disposition, but since we made the switch, he's more playful and alert, especially on our daily walks. The difference is obvious—not just to me, but to friends and even our vet. His coat, which used to be a bit dull and dry, is now glossy and thick. Even shedding seems to have decreased. I also love the transparency and quality of the ingredients. It feels great knowing I'm feeding him something that's minimally processed and made with real, wholesome food. The preparation is simple, and he devours every bite. If you're on the fence, don’t be. This food has done wonders for my dog, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. Thank you, Honest Kitchen, for creating a product that lives up to its name and helps our furry companions thrive!

Why is there dehydrated garlic in the food? Garlic isn't good for dogs. I was thinking of trying the food until I saw garlic as one of the ingredients. Do you make food without garlic?

  1. Hi there, Thanks for reaching out! Garlic is actually only harmful in incredibly large amounts. In small amounts, it offers many health benefits. Many holistic vets and nutritionists include a small amount of garlic in their homemade recipes. The amount of garlic that we include in some of our foods (just 0.25%) is not enough to be harmful even to the smallest of dogs. Garlic helps the immune system fight infections and disease as it strengthens digestion and stimulates the intestinal tract. Garlic can have a powerful antioxidant effect, which aids white blood cells to fight infections by stimulating other immune cells. It also has anti-fungal and antibiotic properties. Garlic has also been shown to lower blood pressure, reduce the buildup of plaque, regulate blood sugar, prevent blood clots, reduce yeast infections and help prevent cancer. Its strongest affinities are for the liver, blood, cardiovascular system, and immune system. Garlic contains protein, fiber, potassium, phosphorous, calcium, sodium, vitamin A, thiamine, niacin, taurine, zinc, riboflavin, and many other nutritive compounds. We have several recipes in our line that are made with a very small quantity of garlic, as well as a selection of recipes that are garlic-free. Are the dehydrated recipes low in sodium. Two of my dogs have cardiac disease.

  1. Hi there, Thanks for reaching out! Although we don't make any prescription foods we do have recipes that fit the feeding model for low-sodium diets. Sodium is an essential nutrient that's required for the health of all dogs, even those with heart conditions, and it's an AAFCO requirement for a complete and balanced recipe. So, there will be at least a minimum amount of sodium present in any complete diet, and that's a good thing! For our customers who have been recommended by their vets/nutritionists to provide a low sodium diet to their dogs, here are our lowest sodium diets: Limited Ingredient Turkey Recipe https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/dehydrated-limited-ingredient-turkey-dog-food Whole Grain Turkey Recipe https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/dehydrated-whole-grain-turkey-dog-food Whole Grain Beef Recipe https://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/dehydrated-whole-grain-beef-dog-food You can find full AAFCO Nutrient Profiles for each of our complete and balanced recipes on our website. To find these, just visit the recipe page for the recipe you're interested in, scroll down to 'NUTRITION' and you'll see a link that says "View Nutrient Profile." Here you can find the sodium content for each recipe. I hope this helps! Thanks so much
