My 3 year old 23lb. male corgi has a history of developing cystine crystals in his urinary tract and was put on Hill's U/D canned food as a result. I have been reading online about alkaline diets and was wondering if we could prepare food for him at home that would be sufficient in preventing the formation of the cystine crystals. The food he is on currently is very expensive ($42-$46 every 12 days). How can we determine the correct amount of homemade food or his weight and breed?
What else can I add to supplement my Dog's diet? He's just had the Bladder surgery but ongoing monthly costs for a 35kg dog on other than Hills Prescription u/d diet (375kg.) dry ^ Hills UD 375 cans (I've purchased a month's worth) is VERY expensive on an ongoing basis.Thank you
My cat was almost two he was diagnosed w/FLUTD and had crystals in his urine. He had a perineal urethrostomy after being diagnosed. He was originally on hills science c/d and s/d but that became very expensive. He has been one Purina One urinary tract health dry food for about 1.5 years and has had no urinating issues. I want him to lose weight (18lbs) & don't know if his wet food should be urinary or weight loss focused and what his dry food should focus on since I'm doing a mixed diet.
Noticed 12 yr. F. Lab Retriever having trouble releasing urine. Visit to vet for vaccine, felt dogs tummy and suggested ultra sound. Suggested immediate surgery because many stones seen. After surgery said most stones ever seen. I saw them, 15 lbs of stones. Says needs to be on Royal Canine Urinary SO dog food for life. She is not tolerating more than 1/2 her food being this food. Am mixing with her old food Blue Buffalo Senior. Now suggesting other Brand. Need special food for life?
My vet has prescribed to may cat Royal canin SO (as he had Urinary disease). However, I read its ingredients, it contains lots of grain and carbs, meat quality and content are also very dubious (probably 4D meats). Are there any alternatives against urinary disease, but grain-free, low carbs and good meat?
I'm desperate to find a high quality dog food (wet) that would be good for my 8 year old Dachshund who has Cushing's Disease, an enlarged liver, gastric ulcer and is overweight. My (very tall and muscular!!) Miniature Schnauzer needs to lose about 3 pounds. Prescription Royal Canin didn't carry enough sustanance for him, so he was constantly hungry. I got him on ProPlan weight control kibble, but I'm always concerned with his micronutrients. He got a bought of pancreatitis once, so crude fat must be low. How do you feel about these fresh dog foods? Better than kibble? Or not, so due to the moisture percentage?
