Description

Please note that the product information displayed is provided by manufacturers, suppliers and other third parties and is not independently verified by Petco.

The Cat Safety Gate Extra Bar is designed for extra protection and narrows the space between each bar or your wall. Please note that Extra Bars do not physically extend the gate further than the original adjuster bolts allow. The Extra Bars are designed to allow for an opening wider than 37.5" without compromising the safety of your pets. While the distance between each bar can be adjusted, we highly recommend that the bars are adjusted to be less than 1.8" from each other to prevent cats from squeezing through the sides of the gate.

  • - Exclusively designed for the Richell Cat Safety Gate
  • - Recommended for cats up to 11 lbs.

Will this fit a 26 inch opening ??

  1. The Richell Cat Safety Gate Extension is an extra bar exclusively designed for the Richell Cat Safety Gate, which is sold separately. Therefore, the answer is no, it will not fit a 26-inch opening.

I have a 39 inch opening. Does that mean that I should order the gate plus 2 extensions, or is 1 extension enough?

  1. You could try just the one extension. We had to keep ordering more extensions (3) everytime our skinny cat squeezed through! With only our big cat it would have been okay.

How many extensions would I need for a 45" door opening?

  1. Cat Safety Gate Extra Bar (cat safety gate extension) is designed for extra protection and narrows the space between each bar or your wall, which allow to use opening up to 42" with Cat Safety Gate (sold separately). Unfortnately, it cannot be use for 45" door opening. We apologize for the inconvenience.

How many extensions can you add to the gate? One? Or can you add 2 (or more)?

  1. We were able to add 3 extension poles to the expansion rods for our 41 inch doorway opening. We needed them to be 1 1/4 inches apart to keep our tall, skinny shelter cat from squeezing through! Not sure if more poles can be added without compromising the tightness of the fit.

How many bars are included in one extension kit? Some sites show 1, some 2…

What is the spacing between the bars? How small a kitten could this (theoretically) contain?

    1. The spacing on the door is 1 3/8 inches between the bars. We had to buy three extra poles for the sides to make those spaces 1 1/4 inches. The height keeps our two shelter cats from jumping over so far...!

Whats the smallest doorway it can fit into? In inches please.

How many extensions do I need to span a doorway that is 38 inches across? Thanks.

      1. Based off the descriptions/ specs for the extensions, the gate by itself should fit a 38" entry width

How do you install this, is it tension or mounted with screws top and bottom?

      1. Tension mounted.  The beige, flat square thingers you see in the photos tighten the rods once you get the gate where you want it.  It’s a lot of parts but super heavy duty.  We’re using it to keep our warring cats separated while we do a reintroduction and it’s great

      Worth the price for me

This is a heavy-duty product. May be good for blocking dogs too. I rescue cats and have up to 36 indoors at one time. this works great to separate or block out my cats. It was a bit of a challenge to assemble the bars on the swinging door by myself. Easily removed and reinstalled. Door hangs on a pin so you can remove the door without removing the frame. Expensive but worth the price for me. would buy again.

No, I do not recommend this product.
