[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This device is great. Took a bit to dig and run it but once done I was amazed. Works great, holds really long battery life. The range has a nice wide area for my dogs to run. Came with one collar but purchased a second for my other dog. Now I don’t have to worry about the little one getting out of the fence anymore. They learned the boundaries fast.

The setup was quick and easy

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The setup was quick and easy, and the collar is lightweight and adjustable for comfort. It effectively keeps my dog contained within the yard after some initial training. Caution: Since it uses an electric signal, be careful during installation and training, as there’s a risk of your pet getting a shock if they cross the boundary.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I received this in exchange for my honest review. This is a great tool to have for pet owners looking to establish boundaries for pets while off the leash. I like how customizable it is. You can purchase more wire to cover more area. It’s fairly easy to install. So far it has worked well and fit our needs. I would definitely recommend!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] this invisible fund system is amazing and super effective for helping my dog stay in the yard. I have a four year-old Shih Tzu puppy and she loves to run around the yard and now knowing that she has a safe area to run around and it makes me feel so much more comfortable and so much more safe for the summer coming up. I’m so excited!

Love the option for expansion!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This product is great because it gives our dog more space and freedom than the regular fence. We love that it can be expanded to give him more space if we need to. It didn't take him long to learn the boundaries. I like that the shock can be adjusted too. We were nervous about the electric fence because we didn't want to hurt him. However, our dog seems more happy now with space and freedom than he did before.

Great off leash boundary to train in

amberjelly_9167

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was so happy to have received the PetSafe basic in-ground fence. It’s great to finally let my dog off leash in the area and not worry about them running away. There is a wire transmitter that is installed indoors to give it power and signal for buried wire. The buried wire runs from the transmitter to your boundary that you create. It came with a waterproof color which uses batteries. There are 4 different corrections levels plus tone for training. There are temporary training flags to help the dog and you visualize the blundering during the training period since it takes time to get used to. The package came with 50ft of wire and dozens of training flags, if you wanted to expand you would need to purchase additional wire. But what I have is perfect for my current backyard.

Questions

will the wire still work if I put it in PVC pipe around the yard?

  1. Thank you for asking about this! Yes, any non-metallic conduit would be perfectly fine to run your wire through, so PVC would be a good option.

I have a power gate into my driveway. Every time it opens, my Canne Corso takes off out the gate. Would this work to keep him from doing that? and would the gate cause any problems? (It is a mighty Mule - opens in the middle).

  1. Thank you for your question. While the fence may be a great option to help train your pup from taking off when the gate opens, following the training instructions included with the system is crucial for the fence to be successful. To help prevent possible interference, we would recommend keeping the fencing wire at least 5 ft from the electric gate. For additional assistance, please reach out to our Customer Care team directly at 1-866-738-4379 Monday - Friday 8am - 7pm EST

Rather than digging and putting it in the ground, will it work if I hook it through a fence? I can put it up high enough to not be in the way of the mower. Will that work?

  1. Thank you for your great question. The wire does not need to be buried to function, and you can attach it to a non-metal fence.

I have a Great Pyranese is this fence system strong enough to contanin him, like 125lbs

  1. Great question! We typically recommend the type of collar based on your dog's individual temperament rather than size or breed. This Basic In-Ground Fence will offer our standard strength receiver collar which is great for timid to average temperaments. For more energetic to stubborn temperaments, we also offer the PIG00-10777 Stubborn Dog In-Ground Fence. If you have questions, feel free to give us a call at 1-800-732-2677.

How close does the collar get before the shock?

  1. Thank you for your question! The distance away from the wire that the collar will begin to activate is fully adjustable. The minimum/maximum range can vary depending on the total amount of wire used in the boundary and environmental factors, but typically it can be set as close as a couple of feet away up to as far away as 8-12".

would this work for keeping a dog off the highway? I live on a small farm and she is allowed everywhere else around the place , but she keeps going onto the highway.

  1. Thank you for your great question. You can absolutely use this In-Ground Fence to only bound off one part of your property. There will be layout examples in the manual that will show you some ideas for your layout.

Could I use this as a way to prevent my dog from bolting out the front door? I don’t want it to affect her when she goes near the door inside, just when she attempts to cross the boundary to dash out the door.

  1. A Scat Mat might be what you are looking for. It shocks on the feet when pup tries to cross the threshold. I believe you can buy an indoor or an outdoor version.

How would I place the wire if I have to go over a slab or sidewalk to make a perimeter "fence" out my front door?

  1. Thank you for your great question, Pam! To cross a sidewalk or driveway, many people like to lay the wire in an expansion joint, the space where two concrete slabs meet. You can then use a sealing caulk to place over the wire and hold it in place. Alternatively, many people like to use a circular saw with a masonry blade to cut a groove into the concrete. Then you can lay the wire and use the sealing caulk. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us directly at PetSafe at 1-800-732-2677, and we'll be happy to help!

Can I run the loop above ground along 2 rural fence wires 12 " apart for a one sided boundary? Is there a non mains battery to power the system that might be solar rechargeable?

  1. Thank you for your question! To run the wire along a single side of the yard, a double loop layout with the two sides of the wire running parallel to each other, separated by at least 5', would be needed. The material that your existing rural fence is made of could also potentially effect the signal. Due to the number of factors involved, we'd highly recommend giving our Customer Care Center a call at the number 1-800-732-2677 so that we can discuss the best way to achieve your desired wire layout. The Basic In-Ground Fence's transmitter unit is powered by an AC power adapter and does not have an internal battery.

When hooking this up do the ends need to meet and go inside the base inside the house? I am new to this and it is a little confusing

  1. Thank you for your question, Kim! This is correct. The wire will need to make a continuous loop starting from one side of the transmitter, covering the desired area, and then coming back to the other side of the transmitter. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to us directly at 1-800-732-2677. We are always happy to help.
