Poor designed

This is poorly designed and the description is misleading. It’s small size, not medium/large. Lol. The water tank overflows. My apartment’s floor is full of water. Don’t buy it!

No, I do not recommend this product.

We have 3 German Shepherds and 2 of them tend to splish splash in a regular water bowl and there was water everywhere. We needed to find something that would help so they drink the water and not the mop the floor with the water. This product has my puppies drinking to their hearts content. It holds 1 gallon of water and that is a full day for 3 puppies. Very hard to turn over when filled. Love that you can use tap water and it will be purified by the filter in the tap. There are refills available for purchase.

No, I do not recommend this product.

The base has crevices between the two pieces that have been pin-welded together, so it’s just a slime trap. I was going to return them (I bought two), but I decided to try one out. It’s a bit of a pain to get the reservoir onto the base without making a huge mess. Even when I have it on, it overflows and makes a huge mess. Also, this doesn’t seem to be filter friendly as it doesn’t use the same lid as the plastic permeate water dispensers. We’ve only used it for a couple of days, and it’s already nasty. Definitely overpriced. I would have at least liked the option of the filter, which one of the questions online said this is filter compatible-it’s not.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Not worth the price

Based on the pics, and other waterers, I thought that the base came apart into two separate pieces for cleaning. It is actually welded together at a few pinpoints, and there are gaps between, so this will certainly start getting some funk (based on all of my experience with water, and gaps). I also am not sure that this would actually work with a filter, which was something that was asked in the questions (the lid is different than other petmate waterers). The dish itself is pretty big, so I am worried about the water getting extra funky, and contaminating the reservoir. I’m leaving town for a week, and want to make sure that my babies are covered without my roommate having to do too much work. I will have to return these because I don’t want my 18-year old cat to get sick. I like that it is a stainless steel bowl, rather than plastic because one of my boys gets kitty acne. Also, I did notice that one of the other questions inquired about using a glass reservoir—that would actually be really helpful because kitty acne is quite common. If the base came apart for cleaning, and the lid at least gave me the option of using a filter, I would keep it just so that I could use it when I travel.

No, I do not recommend this product.

We appreciate your feedback. Our Petmate Replendish Gravity Waterer does come with a filter which is placed inside the black cap. The vet-recommended stainless steel base resists harmful bacteria growth and can be safely put into the dishwasher for easy cleaning and sanitizing at high temperatures. However, the BPA fre plastic bottle that is made from recyclable plastics is not dishwasher safe. We recommend cleaning the bottle with a bottle brush and warm soapy water and let air dry. We hope this helps! Sincerely, Petmate Consumer Services<!--[if ReviewResponse]><![endif]-->

Possibly I’m an idiot because I don’t know what 16 cups IS, but it’s definitely too small/not enough for any dog that isn’t very small, or a cat. But it doesn’t stink like my (bigger) plastic one did so that’s a big plus!!!!It

how easy is it to clean the inside of the bottle? Can a hand fit through the opening?

  1. Thank you for your inquiry. We always recommend a solution of vinegar/water and dawn dish soap. You can let the item soak overnight in the vinegar and water, then use the Dawn Dish soap the next morning, scrubbing all the crevices with a bottle bush (like a baby bottle brush). Please don't forget to rinse it out really well so there is no vinegar or soap left in the bottle. Sincerely, Petmate Consumer Services

Do I have to purchase a filter for this product?

  1. I asked agent, they stated The Petmate Replacement Filters for Replendish Auto-Watering Systems, Pack of 3 filters can be purchased together with the Petmate Stainless Steel Replendish Waterer for Dogs, 16 Cup. It will be your discretion if you wanted to save a replacement filter for you waterer. For best results, replace filter every 6-8 weeks"

I have a large dog.  Does this product come in larger sizes?

  1. Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately our Petmate Stainless Steel Gravity Waterer only comes in a 1 gallon size. Sincerely, Petmate Consumer Services

is there a glass reservoir available?

  1. Thank you for your question. Unfortunately we do not currently offer a glass reservoir for this product. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. A standard water jug will not work in this unit.

Is the plastic portion of this BPA free?

  1. Thank you for your inquiry. The Plastic Reservoir is BPA free.

98038 How do I take this waterer apart to set it up?

  1. Hello from Riothamus. Yes, I'm going to answer my own question! I e-mailed Foster and Smith and returned the waterer after contacting the manufacturer who said, "There are no tricks to taking the waterer apart; it should come apart easily. Return it." I received a replacement waterer, which had the very same problem, so I decided to keep it anyway and see what the problem was. Using a fine chisel and a hammer I finally did take the waterer top off the base. The base and stainless steel top had been held together by three small blobs of metal which had been applied at three places on the inside that coincided with the tiny indentations on the outside which, I presume, are meant to act as gentle friction holds. The metal appeared to have been applied when molten as they made black marks on the base and broke apart with a rough edge, I believe these errors in manufacturing originated at the factory and that all waterers from a certain time window are going to be defective. I am now working on separating the plastic water bottle from its stainless steel support. This appears to be held in by numerous dents in the metal, also apparently damage done at the factory. These waterers are beautifully designed and made of quality materials but are made unusable by their manufacturing problems. Riothamus

How do I fill the bottle ?

  1. It pulls apart. Put the water well under one arm and with your other hand, pull on the reservoir dish until it comes apart.
