This is not a consumable product but small shavings (no larger than a grain of rice) should pass through. However, a dog should not be able to break off large pieces of any Nylabone non-edible chew. No dog toy is totally indestructible. Frequently inspect your Nylabone before giving it to your dog to make sure it's whole and intact, with no missing pieces. Replace when the knuckles are worn down, or if it becomes too small for your dog to chew safely. Be sure to choose the right size and formulation for your dog's chewing style.

Every time I go into the Petco in Oakland, CA off Lakeshore Ave. they are always so very helpful and friendly. My dog also loves her Nylabone. Your staff deserve a raise. I always keep coming back because of your products and in particular your service.

She tends to love chew toys like this but when given to her she would drop it and pick up a different toy. Also, it seemed super heavy even based on the chart on the label. She also experienced a little gum bleeding when she did chew on the bone. Would not repurchase.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a large dog. She is about 115 pounds of pure fluff and energy. She is also a power chewer and destroyer. Every other “power chewer” toy I’ve given to her is destroyed within several hours. This one, however, has lasted. She loves this toy. She will carry it everywhere with her. Seems like she enjoys the flavor and shape of the toy. I will say that because she is a power chewer she has dented it which has caused some rough spots on it which will hurt if you step on it.

This nylabone is long lasting. It is basically non edible and perfect size for my 30 lb dog.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Tried this a little over a week ago and the dog still goes after it. This one doesn't seem to hold her interest like the darker colored ones, but she goes for it from time to time. The only thing that seems different about this would be the embedded flavor, not sure if the scent is there or not but that might prevent dogs from showing a ton of interest in it.

He is almost a year old so I keep him updated with bones but we seem to go through them rather quickly. I got this one because it is flavored and long lasting. He loved it at first. Hours and hours of chew time and didn’t even break it down or get bored. I even caught him licking it. So the flavoring must’ve been good. However, I’m guessing the flavoring is now gone after about a week or two because he doesn’t pay it much attention anymore. He still chews on it occasionally but not as much as before. But I still like that he hasn’t broken it yet.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have a 1 year old German Sheppard puppy who chews and destroys everything, this is the first toy/bone that he hasn't destroyed within the first 10 minutes of having it. It is a nice and sturdy/strong bone. It also has a flavor throughout the bone, which is also nice. I definitely would recommend this for anyone that has a dog that destroys everything, this will last.

When should you discard Nylabones ?

I throw them away when the knuckles are chewed away and the bone's overall diameter is that of the shaft. I think the package used to suggest this as a safety measure.

There are softer "gummy" bones called Flexibones (from the same company) that he may enjoy more. Or I would buy the puppy versions. The Nylabone is for hard chewers; your dog may be attracted to the smell.

My brother has an Australian Shepherd and I have 3 rottweilers. We only use Nylabones now because they really are the toughest bones we can find! One of my rotties is older and has sensitive teeth but he will gnaw for hours. We just watch him and pull the bone away if we see blood (which has only happened once). I haven't noticed any fracturing of his teeth or problems with his jaw. The bones have been cleaning his teeth really well and strengthening his chewing capabilities if anything. If you are worried, I would monitor your mini Aussie's use and only let her have the bone for 1 hour increments.

Yes, to the degree that very small chips come off, they are safe. I have used them for decades.. When the nylabone becomes small enough to swallow, I would discard it. I stick with the largest nylabone that a dog can gnaw on COMFORTABLY. They are long-lasting, and well worth the price.

I TURN IT AROUND AND HOLD THE CHEWED END. A LITTLE MESSY BUT I USE AN OLD SOCK TO SLIP END IN. WE BOND AND SHE TRUST. I ALSO CAN GET HER "BRAND NEW BONE HAPPY" BY PLAYING FETCH WITH IT. HAVE FUN. GETTING YOUR DOG TO RETRIV AND DROP IN YOUR HAND THEIR TREAT IS GREAT FOR KEEPING IN THEIR MINDS WHO'S ALPHA DOG. I HAVE DONE THIS WITH ALL MY TEA CUP POODLES SINCE OLD ENOUGH TO ENJOY THIS CHEWY TREAT. YOU CAN ALSO TAKE IT AWAY FOR A DAY OR SO AND THEN RETURN. NO BONES IN BETWEEN.
