Novolin N insulin is an injectable medication that is structurally similar to the insulin produced by the pancreas in humans and is used to control high blood sugar in patients with diabetes mellitus. Novolin N is an intermediate-acting insulin and starts working 1 1/2 hours after injection. The greatest blood sugar lowering effect is between 4 and 12 hours after the injection. This blood sugar lowering may last up to 24 hours.

The pharmacy have me Novolin 70/30 instead of Novolin N for my 12 year old lab. He takes 22 units. Can I still use this insulin ?
My dog, 24 lb schnauzer, was just diagnosed with Diabetes. Vet prescribed 6.5 insulin twice a day, original glucose level was 450. Vet sold us Vetsulin insulin and told us to not shake, only draw when clear. after a week blood was still 450, reading vetsulin website they say it is suspended and should be shaken. Vet has now prescribed 10 units twice a day, I am scared this is way too much. advice?
My diabetic dog receives 4ml twice daily. Lately, he has frequent urination and excessive thirst. The vet upped his insulin on our last visit. Do you think my dog is still not getting enough insulin? He weighs 15lbs now and is a 10 year chihuahua/min pin mix.
He's recently been diagnosed diabetic, changed his food, and I've been giving him injections of insulin after he eats. (Twice a day) He has a Free Style Libre attached, and despite everything, his blood sugar is still way up in the 400's. His vet is unavailable, but the one there said not to change his insulin amount until I speak with her tomorrow. He's getting 14ml x 2 per day (I think ml)
My diabetic cat is on proving insulin which is expensive. Is there an otc human equivalent insulin?
My cat was recently diagnosed with diabetes and we're in the process of administering insulin twice a day and he is responding well - yay! My vet suggested we go with 3.5 units (using the Lantus Solostar pen) twice a day. However, the pen doesn't do half doses. Is it OK to give him 3 units in the evening, then 4 units in the morning until I get the syringes with half dose readings? I would ask my vet but it's now Saturday and he won't be back in the office until Tuesday. Thanks, Sarah
Stripes has diabetes and has been prescribed 2 units of vetsulin twice a day. I gave him his first dose two units, but they sent us home with u-100 syringes instead of u-40! So I'm SURE I under dosed him, and he was supposed to get it between 9 and 10 (it's almost 1). What is the appropriate amount in that syringe?! And do I give him the rest of the dose now or have I essentially killed him??!!
My newly diabetic cat get Vetsulin U 40. Vet says increase slowly and watch for signs of improvement. His blood-glucose level is an average 246. On a U 40 syringe, I'm up to #5 on the lines, is the 5 units? How much insulin should I be giving him? What's the best time to check his blood-glucose? Does his eating before or after blood checks make a difference? Help! Thanks!
My 11 y/o diabetic cat does seem to be responding to the Vetsulin insulin. Her numbers still range from 348-388. She gets 8u in am and 7u pm. She's been on it since May 2017. She hovers over the water bowl and wants me to pick her up to drink from the bathroom faucets. Her appetite is good. She walks on her hocks.
can I give my dog human insulin for diabetes
Hi, I have a beagle female, 10 years old. A year ago was diagnosed with diabetes, she is blind, have cataracts. We pass vet to vet, and caninsulin doesn’t work, we try put once per day, twice, and multiple times per day. Even 60 units of caninsulin and her blood sugar never down of 400, weighs 16 kilos, I attach the photo of her last blood tests, are in Spanish, I’m from Mexico. Thank you so much.
Hi, my diabetic dog just had her glucose level checked and it was at 61. (7 hours after her insulin and meal) The vet is out till tomorrow so the tech said to maybe drop her one unit. im concerned shes being given to much. Shes 20lbs and they started her at 5 units, up'd her to 7. And now have her on 9units
