We’re very happy with the nutrient mix and provided recipe and instructions. It’s so good knowing our dogs are getting the proper nutrients they need and we’re able to make feeding them fresh food a bit more affordable by making it at home. We easily transitioned from the frozen JFFD to this without a hitch!

Love it! And so does my doggo

Can add it to my dog’s favorite meal using ground beef and Japanese yams instead of potatoes. I add carrots and a spinach like vegetable. Then the nutrient mixed after everything is cooked.

I was hoping he would like it, but unfortunately he didn't like any of the flavors. I did purchase the DIY, I haven't tried it yet.

Questions

I have a very large dog (120lbs bernese mtn dog) and I am wondering about the portion sizes. What would be the ideal amount of food to feed one her size? and how long would one of the diy canisters last?

I currently feed my dogs a combination of cooked chicken and raw beef with sweet potatoes and carrot, liver and gizzards. If I added the DIY formula. Will it add extra nutrients it might need and will it add extra calories?

    1. Hi, in my opinion, I think it is very important and to add the formula and follow directions. All the little micro nutrients are very important in the right ratio.

What are the ingredients that have to be purchased and how to you prepare them?

    1. You will need to purchase ground beef, beef liver (it can be found sliced and frozen in a grocery store), russet potatoes, sweet potatoes, carrots, apples, green beans, peas, and safflower oil. The meats and veggies cook in one skillet, and the potatoes boil in a separate pot. It may seem like a lot of work but it is worth it. I cook every week for two Bulldogs and can’t imagine ever going back to dry dog food.

Are there multiple recipes included in the canister? My dog has an apple intolerance and would need a substituted ingredient.

    1. Nope. No subs but you could probably leave it out. There is also a toll free number you can call to talk to a doggie nutritionist.

Petco.com consistently says that JustFoodForDogs DYI powder is NOT AVAILABLE at the Union Square Petco, yet it is always available. This blocks me from getting the 10% order-online-pick-up in store discount. Why?

So this only comes as a powder, no actual *food* in the can to be reconstituted? It says it makes 30 lbs of food, does that mean 30 lbs of BROTH or GRAVY?? What's the difference in this and just buying people food, no salt/low sodium beef broth?

      1. It makes 30 pounds of food. You need to buy FRESH ingredients and an Omega-3 supplement. I make a half recipe for my dog every two weeks. He loves his food. I was having the JFFD prepared meals delivered but I like making it myself better.
