A NEW DOG AGAIN!

Sboles530

My dog Chloe isn't a spring chicken anymore and developed a really bad yeast infection turned into a secondary bacterial infection. Made a trip to the vet and suspected Chloe's food was the culprit #1. We changed Chloe's food to Hills Canine z/d and Chloe is a new dog! She has a spring back in her step and pretty much a new dog! I wish we had switched her food before to became a problem! I am beyond thrilled to have my baby back feeling good again!

Not for us

George (a yellow lab) has allergies all year long. I'm still searching for the right kibble. He has NO food allergies, but likes some kibbles more than others. I'd like the best food on the market that is the most suited for his concerns. But he has to love it. He did NOT love this kibble.

No, I do not recommend this product.

I took her off of ZD after 3 years because of the price. After 3 months her itching started again. She will now remain on ZD for life in spite of the cost.

Yes, I recommend this product.

Too costly

Dogbert11

It does help, but it is way too costly to go through 2 25 lb. bags a month. And these now are exempted from any savings deals. Please bring the cost down to more reasonable levels.

Yes, I recommend this product.

My dog is happy again!

My dog started having horrible skin issues, she was itching/licking herself constantly, her skin was black and leather-like, she had constant ear infections, and had less energy and she started losing a lot of hair on her stomach. After a few months of trial and error with our vet, they recommended switching to this food. Ever since she has been on this food her skin condition has healed, she's had her hair grow back, her ears haven't had any issues and she has more energy. Even though the food is pricey seeing my dog back to her normal self is worth it. Only downside is since she's been on this food her nose is extremely dry and it's cracking. We're going back to the vet and will talk about this but it is her only side effect from the food so far and it doesn't seem to bother her at all.

Questions

How do I change my prescription dog food order from a 25lb bag to a 17.6lb bag?

  1. You can cancel your current autoship order and place a new order with the smaller bag size.

Did they change the size of the 25lb bag? With the change of the picture, the bag seems to contain less food. I can fit it in the bin I have where I couldn't before and I also run out quicker. I have repeat delivery and have had to order much sooner.

  1. It is possible. After our dog being on z/d for two years we had to change her diet as she got pancreatitis. Was it the z/d? Wasn't anything else since that was all she ate.

Has anybody noticed the color of the poop that sacked for a few days if it turns dark brown almost black concerned puppy owner with allergies!!!

  1. No, That has not happened with us and we have 2 dogs age 6 and 8 years old on this dog food.

Did anyone’s dog get worse before getting better?

  1. My girlie (Ozzie) maintained a status quo, no better and no worse on the z/d. Her allergy symptoms manifest as scratching especially her ears repeated frequent ear infections, She chewed on her front paws.  I answered your question so you can get some idea of how many had decreased symptoms or more/increased symptoms.  She has changed to a different brand of food and is seeing a skin and allergy specialist.  She is showing the first signs of improvement I’ve seen.

Does this food have the S/O+ Shield component?

Is this dog food grain free?

    1. Sorry! I originally said yes, but I believe I was incorrect.

I have a 4 months French bulldog and I wanted to know if it’s for puppies too

    1. I'm sorry, I do not know if it is for puppies too. I would ask your vet how they feel about feeding a 4 month old dog the Hills Z/D. My very allergic bubs started eating this brand when he was around a year old. It took a while because I tried different brands and even raw before I tried Hills Z/D. Raw worked well with eliminating his constant itch and red muzzle, but he always had soft stool. Long story short, it seems like my dog is allergic to seafood - and most dog foods have omega-3 from fish oil. In the end, Hills Z/D is amazing for my dog! I believe the soft food version has had recall issues. But the dry dog food hasn't. I hope this is helpful.

My shelters have been eating this food for years.  However, we just bought a new bag and since we started feeding it to my dogs they have been acting differently.  They leave half of the food in their bowls and don’t seem interested in eating it.

    1. This happened with my dog, Geo - when I first opened a 25 lb bag! He was hesitant to eat it, and his bowel movements (timing and texture) changed. After a few days (to ensure it was the food), I ordered another bag (17 lb bag so as to not have to throw away a 25 lb bag), and he is back to normal!

I am doing a food trial using this dog food to rule out food allergies. I noticed there is chicken liver in the food. How is that going to rule out chicken as an allergy? It is the same as chicken in other dog foods correct?

    1. according to my vet, it is hydrolyzed chicken which means all of the allergens have been taken out
