Purchased in store 8/30/2023. Disappointed at the small amount of safflower seeds based on product name. Mostly filled with other seeds and such. Will shop for other safflower products for exotic birds.

We have purchased this product in the past for another bird. Our new bonded pair of conures from Petco are crazy about this seed blend. The previous bird was a picky eater but the new birds eat every last speck of Higgins Safflower Gold Natural Food Mix for Conures

Nutritional bird food for cockatiels (and conures)

This is my Cockatiels favorite food...no sunflower seeds that are very wasteful and can cause weight gain...you can control how many sunflower seeds to give them on a daily basis (buy separately). They will have many different varieties of healthy ingredients to choose from...plus I supplement my Cockatiels with fresh fruits and vegetables...

Yes, I recommend this product.

I looked at the ingredients and saw "sugar" listed. Is there not enough from the dried fruit?

  1. The dried fruit is likely the culprit here, since many manufacturers that dry the fruit add sugar to make them taste better, and I don’t think they discriminate between food for animals and food for humans. But the fruit pieces are very small, and the sugar amount is not too much more considering how much sugar is already in fruit as you mentioned. My cockatiel didn’t even like the fruit pieces that much, so unless they go out of their way to only eat fruit, I’d say it’s still safe to feed regularly without worry. Always check with your vet for any health problems you may encounter :)

Is this a good food for my parrolet?

  1. Yes it would be good for your parrolet. They also have one for parakeets. I like to mix different sizes and brands for my Senegal.

Can this be used as a primary diet? My conure hates pellets and didnt eat the homemade food I made. Trying to get him off sunflower seeds.

  1. This is what That is what we feed our conures, lovebirds, and parakeets; all of whom are regularly complimented by our vet on their excellent overall health and the quality of their feathers. There is also minimal waste as they all love the variety of items in the mix. Can I feed my Quaker this? If not, any other suggestions. Thanks

  1. This is what we feed our conures, lovebirds, and parakeets; all of whom are regularly complimented by our vet on their excellent overall health and the quality of their feathers. They also make a larger version for larger birds. If you have multiple food bowls I would try a bowl of each and see which they like better. There is also minimal waste as they all love the variety of items in the mix. Good luck!

What exactly is in the mix? My cockatiel is super picky.

  1. This is what we feed our conures, lovebirds, and parakeets; all of whom are regularly complimented by our vet on their excellent overall health and the quality of their feathers. Since all of our birds are very picky eaters and ALL love this variety so much I would be confident in recommending it for your cockatiel. There is also minimal waste as they all love the variety of items in the mix. Good luck!

Would this be ok to feed my CAG?  I’m looking for a feed that doesn’t have all the pellets and large nuts in shells and dried fruit. He mainly will only eat seeds and shelled nuts. Tired of all the waste

  1. Avoid the Vita Seed. The Safflower Gold is what we feed our conures, lovebirds, and parakeets; all of whom are regularly complimented by our vet on their excellent overall health and the quality of their feathers. There is also minimal waste as they all love the variety of items in the mix. Good luck!
