Gather Your Equipment: Before the bees arrive, make sure you have all the necessary beekeeping equipment ready. This includes protective clothing, gloves, a smoker, hive tool, bee brush, and beehive. Prepare the Hive: Make sure the frames are in place within the hive body, and ensure the frames are properly spaced. Have a feeder filled with sugar syrup ready. Prepare the Bees: Before opening the package, give it a gentle shake to ensure that most of the bees are at the bottom of the shipping package. Install the Queen: Locate the queen cage within the package. Remove and hang it between two frames in the center of the hive. Ensure it's hanging vertically, and replace the small wooden plug with a piece of marshmallow. Install the Bees: Pour the bees into the hive. You can tap the package on the ground to dislodge the bees. Feed the Bees: Place the feeder with sugar syrup on top of the frames in the hive. Close the hive.
Keep packaged bees cool and dry, out of direct sunlight.
