Works well for my cats!

Halan and Hannah

My 5 yr old cat was almost 19 lbs! Doctor said I needed to put him on a diet. I had two overweight cats(One was slightly overweight). And I was feeding them wilderness adult chicken. I would leave a giant bowl filled up all the time. For one year, I fed them both a quarter cup of wilderness Weight control Chicken in the morning and a quarter cup at night.(6am and 9pm). I would also give them five greenie dental treats each 1-2 times a day. And they would also get A small portion of Sheba or fancy feast appetizer at around 3 PM. The overweight cat lost 3 pounds in the first year. The other cat lost about a half pound. The doctor was very happy with the results. Six months ago I switched to wilderness hairball and weight control chicken . My cats are 6 1/2 years old now. The male Is down from Almost 19 pounds to just under 15 pounds. And the Long-haired female was 11 1/2 pounds, she now is under 11 pounds. It takes time to get a cat to lose weight. And you have to feed them separately in different rooms. And you can’t free range them anymore. Takes a while for them to get adjusted, but it does work. My short haired cat very rarely pukes at all. Medium long cat would puke up hair balls quite often. Not sure if this food alone helps with the hairballs. Because I also give her hairball remedy once a week. Before I put my cats on a diet I had my doctor help me figure out a plan. She told me how many calories they required per day and I had to figure out how many calories in a cup of food. I fed them a third less.

Nothing to do with Petco. I forgot my vet said a lot of "weight control" food can constipate my cats and it did exactly that. Two of my cats are now constipated. My vet said just feed them less so I'm doing just that because this food backs them up.

No, I do not recommend this product.

Questions

Sort by: Newest Answers

what is the statistical probability of the effectiveness of the hairball control? my male cat has been having a lot of trouble with them as of late, I have had them on blue buffalo weight control for years.

  1. My cats both had a lot of hairball issues and now they do not. I tried many other hair all remedies and treatments and none helped. I switched from blue buffalo weight indoor weight control to this weight and hairball one and my cats have been so much healthier and their fur is even shinier and softer.

How much success have cats had with actually losing weight? I have tried other weight control foods with no success. Our cat eats once a day with about 3/4 cup of food. She drinks water well too.

  1. I had to eventually get a food prescription for a different brand that had better metabolic characteristics. I've also began to weigh out the food. Cats lose weight sooo slow, but there has been a decrease after a year or two of trying.

I have three adult cats 3,2,and 1 year olds but have a week old kitten. Once it’s ready for dry food is it alright for it to eat adult food with the other ones?

  1. A kitten -definitely- needs kitten food. They require a way different balance of nutrients and much higher calories. Think about how much they grow and change in the first year. They need a specific food to fuel that. If you try and put in a little effort, there are definitely ways to keep your cats' foods separate.

actual weight loss??

  1. My cat named Kitty has taken over the house; this is a good thing! :-) He is my life! He eats on our dinning room table; we don't eat their; so it's his. His water is in a shallow bowl on a piece of artificial grass and that's on the kitchen counter; it looks like he is outdoors that way. He gets small portions at a time. The dry is a tablespoon at a time and this is done a minimum of 4 times a day. Then he gets a small portion of the Nutro pate perfect portions in 3 different varieties. I put the 3 different varieties together in a plastic container with a lid and a little butter knife to cut and serve in the fridge and I rotate them. His dry food is in one of the shallow glass dishes that Petco sells as an insert for a bowl and I cover it with another glass one. When Kitty is hungry he will push it with his nose or paw and it slides off; then I know he is hungry. That's when I will give him another tablespoon of dry and 1/4 of a section of the Nutro pate on a separate little plate I give him several treats of the Blue crunchy with the soft middle several times a day also. This is a system we have going. Kitty weighs about 10 pounds maybe 11. He is a gray Tabby Mackerel (with the tiger stripes). I am around all day and night to feed him this way. Kitty also runs from one end of the house to the other a lot, I have a tunnel that he runs thru in the hallway. If you can't do something like this than I would try a weight control dry food.... They have the Blue adult weight control; then you can add hairball treats to his dry food. Hope that helps a little....Christine :-)
