Just like you, your puppy or dog is a unique individual and their feeding requirements will vary with breed, environment, age and activity. That's why we suggest using the feeding guide as a starting point, and monitoring your puppy or dog's weight and adjusting amounts as needed. We also recommend feeding your pet twice daily and always keeping fresh, clean water available. When switching diets, it's important to transition your dog or puppy as it takes time for their digestive system to adapt to the nutrient levels in ACANA. Over a 5-7 day period, gradually mix in ACANA, increasing the amount each day so that by day 7 you are feeding 100% ACANA. See your veterinarian regularly. To help maintain freshness, we recommend sealing the bag tightly and storing it in a cool, dry location.

Changed formula

Jules

Two years ago I found this dog food for my very sensitive older dog who had many issues with food but for some reason this formula worked well. A few weeks ago I bought the same bag I have been buying but it was completely different in color and size. I assumed it was the same formula and gave it to my dog. Two days later he was incredibly sick. Vomiting and diarrhea. He’s 12 years old so he can’t get sick like that. After trial and error I determined it was in fact the new formula in the same bag I have been buying. I went to where I purchased the bag and they concluded I was correct. So now I am searching for specific lot numbers which have the original formula until I can find a dog food that he can tolerate. There was no warning or even a small heads up they were changing everything in this bag. The original formula was great. This new one is awful. I know I am not the only one this has happened to either. I’ve come across many upset owners and sick dogs after I started looking into this.

Great for sensitive stomachs!

My dog had a pretty rough life before I got him. He was over a year old, and the people who had him before me used cheese to keep his bowels firm. Using cheese like that actually ends up having a reverse effect, and they just kept giving him more. I later also realized he has some food intolerances (wheat, sometimes chicken). I've tried many different dog kibbles over the years. I believed I've tried other Acana products, as well. His stomach is so sensitive, I have to do a full 24 hour fast before putting him on a new food. His body does not tolerate the gradual mixing to start a new food. This is the first food where he was full on ok, with no GI issues at all, after switching. His body really seems to respond well to this kibble. He seems to love to flavor, as well. I still have supplements that I add to his food, and he still gets dog appropriate "people" food, but this is such a great base for for him. He's been on it for several months now (maybe over a year now?) and really just does well on it. I've thought about maybe picking up wet food to mix in, but unless I see a blend from Acana similar to this kibble in wet, that aren't just big cans, I'll probably stick to what I'm doing with him now. Thanks to whoever came up with this mix!

A better quality ingredients

I bought it on sale and my picky eater is actually eating it. I really like the ingredients in it even though I home cook for my companion. Because of the better ingredients in it and my dog actually eating it, I purchased a few more bags, especially them being on sale, even though still pricey. It’s worth it though.

Yes, I recommend this product.

I have a small Bischon Frise that is a rescue from Korea. She's just starting to settle but is still anxious. I've been feeding her the Pacifica label but I think I'll try this label next. Her coat is a bit dry and she chews her feet not sure from stress or what.

Don’t take the risk of this food killing your dog

Our 2.5 year old rescue pup passed away after a year of feeding this food from DCM. The vet in the report claimed this food as not being balanced and at risk for the cause of death. Regardless of how much acana tries to back up their ingredients to cover what they’ve done I wouldn’t risk feeding this food or anything from this brand. Stick with brands that are backed with more testing by the WSAVA. I wish I would’ve known

No, I do not recommend this product.

We are very sorry to hear about the loss of your dog.
The FDA has not declared grain free foods to be definitively linked to DCM and has in fact shared their perspective that grain-free foods are safe and nutritionally complete. Within our brands we do offer both grain free and grain inclusive options for Pet Lovers.
DCM is primarily linked to a genetic predisposition, with non-hereditary DCM being a complex medical condition that is multifactorial in nature. Factors such as breed, genetics, biology, pre-existing health conditions, digestive issues, obesity, nutrition, processing of key nutrients and activity level may all play a role. If you’d like additional information, please reach out to our Customer Care Team. customercare@championpetfoods.com

Tasty, healthy food!

PS pup

I have had my 3 yr old rescue (samoyed/chow) for just over a yr, and she's always had a sensitive tummy. We've tried quite a few different dry food brands, and altho she's not a picky eater, none of the foods seemed to encourage healthy poop! Enter Acana's Rescue Care -- she loves it, and within 36 hrs, i noticed a healthy improvement in her waste. I am very pleased with this food!

FINALLY! Something they will all love

I am so shocked by this particular brand and and kind of dog food. My girls are PICKY eaters. Their stomachs too! Both my seniors have stomach issues, one has missing teeth, one has pancreatitis. So we are extremely careful with what brand and types of ingredients we buy. This dry dog food is small enough for my tiny-medium sized dog can eat. You notice immediately how moist the food product is. It’s soft yet firm. Gives the girls a good crunch which they love. My nearly 2 year old puppy also enjoys it! This food has really helped also with my girls poop. I needed something to help firm it up a bit (lately it’s been too soft). Overall, I’m impressed with this brand and type of dog food. I really hope they like it for a while. If they do tire, I’ll be sure to explore their other types of food. Also! I really like this brand because one of my girls has a severe potato, sweet potato, and green beans allergies and none of these ingredients were on the back (which is tough to find sometimes because these are so common in dog foods). TL;DR buy this food! (Try small bag and then a big bag if needed).

Yes, I recommend this product.
